This is my first year really fishing, I used to catch stocked rainbows with my father when I pretty young. Catching rainbows are some of my only positive memories with my father he worked at a resort during the summer and I would go visit him in his cabin.
I never really understood it as a child but still enjoyed being on the water. In May I got a job at the same fishing resort doing the same thing he did and it completely changed the way I view the hobby and even my father. I’m super grateful for the people that I met and the opportunity to be there. They showed me some cool fishing tricks and taught me a lot of useful life skills, but most importantly they taught me a new love for trout!
It took a few weeks but I finally caught my first one it was a 3 inch lake trout that I had to have my friend unhook because I was scared to hurt the fish. Since then I have gone out at least once a week to explore new spots and go camping, these cutthroat are in almost every stream I go to and there is a blue ribbon fishery less than 20 minutes from my house. It may not have been my first catch but they have a special place in my heart because they were the first one I found and caught without any help except my wife to cheer me on!
