Still pretty new to trout fishing and lately I have been learning as much as I can about reducing mortality rates when gut hooked. I recently learned about how cutting a hook/line is better than trying to remove a deeply hooked fish. My question is, do you still cut the line if there is a plastic bait (micetails/minnows) on the end of it? Can the fish break down and get rid of the plastic in any way even in the hook ends up and remains in the stomach? Or Is there another removal method in this situation that gives the fish the best chance of survival?
